Akshaya Trust is a non-profit organisation in Chennai that provides a free, loving home for abandoned and destitute senior citizens, along with education support for children from underprivileged backgrounds.

Who we are

Akshaya Trust was founded in 2001 with a simple belief: no elder should spend their last years alone, hungry, or unwanted.

Today, the Trust cares for 400+ senior citizens across multiple free old age homes in and around Chennai and Kancheepuram, including Mudichur, Pallikaranai, Valasaravakkam, Pallavakkam, Velappanchavadi, KK Nagar, and Arpakkam.

What we do

Through our free homes, abandoned elders receive food, shelter, medical care, and, most importantly, love and dignity for life.

Residents are provided four nutritious meals a day, regular health check-ups, safe accommodation, and opportunities for festivals, outings, and spiritual activities that keep them emotionally and socially engaged.

Education and children

Under Akshaya Vidyalaya at Arpakkam in Kanchipuram, the Trust runs a free English-medium school that follows a child-friendly learning approach for children from rural and low-income families.

Akshaya Vidyalaya currently provides free education to 240 students, giving them access to quality education, values, and a safe learning environment at no cost.

Educational support—lighting the path

Every child deserves a chance to dream big. Each year, Akshaya Trust sponsors educational fees for nearly 100 students from underprivileged backgrounds, removing financial barriers that often force children to drop out.

Through this educational support, young minds receive the tools, confidence, and opportunities they need to build a brighter future for themselves and their families.

How you can join

Well-wishers can support Akshaya Trust by sponsoring meals, groceries, medical needs, infrastructure, or a child’s education, or by celebrating personal occasions with the elders at our homes.

Volunteers, individual donors, and corporate partners are welcome to visit our units, spend time with residents, and stand with us in ensuring that every elder is family and never forgotten.

Akshaya Trust

Mr.G.Gopalan, Founder and the Managing Trustee of Akshaya Trust is a successful entrepreneur turned philanthropist who has dedicated his life to making a positive impact on society. Gopalan was deeply moved by the plight of abandoned senior citizens, and in response, he founded Akshaya Trust in 2001. 

Gopalan’s passion for helping others and his commitment to creating a better world make him a truly exceptional human being. Gopalan’s success as an entrepreneur has undoubtedly played a role in his ability to lead Akshaya Trust to such great heights. His skills as a leader and his dedication to his cause have made him an excellent role model for others who wish to make a positive impact on society.

Gopalan is the recipient of many awards for his dedicated service, some of which include:

For the sake of Honour Award (The highest award by any Rotary Club) by Rotary Club of Madras Coromandel,

Suka Seva Samskrit Award by Paadarivom Padiparivom Association,
